social commentary! yay!
so props to jcpenney!
they have a new spring ad campaign. the first ad i saw was of women in their new spring dresses/skirts/outfits, and as the walked past things (like cars, teakettles and men), they turned on, blinked, made noise, turned their heads, etc. well, i wasn’t too impressed with the ad. come on, let’s just be a little more sexist, showing women as sex objects.
then i saw their second ad. and it featured men dressed in sharp suits, pants, shirts, etc. and as THEY walked down the street, things (once again cars, fire hydrants and women), stuff turned on, spurt forth, and turned their heads. now i was impressed. it’s about time that the marketing world noticed that men are seen as sex objects as well!
now seeing others as sex objects is a whole different subject, but it’s nice to see advertisers putting men and women opposite their normal gender “roles.” a while back secret had an ad where a guy called his female friend to change his tire and splenda has men cooking with their kids. in real life, we know women change their tires and men do (sometimes) cook, but it’s nice to see it shown mainstream.
