i could write about…

i could write about…

elysiani could write about 50 shades of grey, but i didn’t read the books and don’t plan on seeing the movie, so i really can’t have an opinion.
i could write about my bedroom makeover, but it’s not done yet so i don’t want to spoil the surprise.
i could write about the ice cream waiting to be churned in my fridge, but i’ve written too much about ice cream already.
i could write about a fancy pants mythical fairy tale land filled with princesses and evil unicorns and midgets who hide coins under mushrooms, but i don’t want to delve into that.
i could write about the fantastic book i’m reading right now, but i’m going to wait and write a full review when i’m finished.
i could write about how charlie is ruining my home life, but he’s really not, so that’s a libel suite waiting to happen.
i could write about the measles outbreak, but i really don’t want to contribute to an already saturated blogosphere on that.
i could write about how people don’t know how to use a stupid search bar on a website, but i’m still annoyed about that and it would not end well.
i could write about the keystone pipeline, but that would require a lot of research i really am not in the mood for right now.
i could write about how kevin sorbo’s going to be at wizard world in may! yeah! so that’s happening!

words of the year

words of the year

i get a daily calendar for work, and this past year i picked up a “forgotten english” one, which had words every day that have gone out of use. i was in search of the perfect word i thought needed to be used regularly again. i saw it, loved it, forgot to write it down. (good grief.) i might have found it?
here’s a list of the best words i found:

  • smyster: to idle sitting over a fire. to talk or laugh to oneself as in a daydream
  • balitorium: riotous. merrymaking which often accompanies a bonfire
  • flire: to have a countenance expressive of laughter without laughing out (laughing so hard you don’t make a sound??)
  • zouch: an ungenteel man or bookseller (??)
  • amaritude: bitterness
  • graith: all things necessary for preparation or readiness. the trappings/gear needed in any pursuit. the verb, graithe, mean to prepare or make ready
  • gardyloo!: a common cry in ediburgh when peeps threw urine, slops, etc out of the windown
  • cunctator: one who acts tardily – a delayer
  • ramage: the boughs or branches of trees
  • eargh: superstitiously afraid. eerie is derived from it.
  • bookwright: a maker or author of books
  • scelerat: a villain or criminal
  • cluttery: when it is raining with thick clouds all around
  • mopple: to confuse
  • carnaptious: irritable, ill-tempered, cranky or cantankerous
  • bell-wether: leader of a flock or sheep with a bell (also found out on this day that a black sheep in a flock was good luck)
  • minnock: to affect delicacy or to ape the manners of one’s superiors (like when snoopy was imitating lucy in charlie brown crhistmas??)
  • unkard: a person in a strange place
  • CRAPULENCE: drunkennes or sickness by intemperance (i think this is the word)
  • tripudiation: dancing (why can’t you just say dancing?)
christmas movie update

christmas movie update

25041221
well, christmas movie viewing season is in full swing. i ended up delaying a little bit, and now i’m slashing a couple so i can get them all in on time. whoops!
elf – watched this right after thanksgiving, and it was great. i love the end of this one!!
rudolph went down with a hitch – great bouncing icebergs!
the santa clause – i like judy.
home alone – i like the old guy killer.
national lampoon christmas vacation – i rented this one with charlie so he could say he’s seen it. funny as always!
love actually – looooove this one!! the jamie/aurelia story is my favorite.
die hard was great. “now i have a machine gun. ho ho ho.”
bad santa – ok, i just watched this because it was on netflix. first time for it. wasn’t that impressed, but it might have something to do with the fact that i can’t decide if billy bob thornton is good looking or ugly. i can’t decide what parts he should be playing….
jane and i watched the claymation special , which was shorter than i thought it was. “here we come a waffling!”
watched muppet christmas carol tonight, which is always a fun.
tomorrow is charlie brown christmas and maybe it’s a wonderful life. i have stuff going on tuesday night and then wednesday is christmas eve, so the time is now!
the only new movies this year were bad santa and the claymation special, which wasn’t as awesome as i remember, but it was fun to watch. πŸ™‚

a few things

a few things

1. i am going to be published in rochester women’s magazine! how exciting. i submitted a version of my pumpkin pie thanksgiving story. i’m hoping anything out there will be better than nothing. i’m really hoping someone offers me money to write for them.
2. if you want to start yoga, i highly recommend fightmaster yoga on youtube. the instructor has the most soothing voice for yoga, and the time flies by – namaste. she has beginner, intermediate, and yoga specifically for weight loss, certain poses, etc. she has a ton of videos. that was my problem previously with yoga: i was doing the same thing over and over. a little variation helps a ton! i do it without a mat on my living room carpet; so far it’s been working. my core is definitely getting the workout it was missing.
3. mn blogger conference this weekend! i was going to go just for me, but after looking at the schedule and talking to my coworker, it’s probably going to be helpful for work, too. so i’m going for work and taking friday off! woo!
4. i gotta carve pumpkins!

1. go to whitewater with my camera. maybe it’ll be the new SJU? (unlikely…)
2. get up really early and take a sunrise picture on CR 11 north of fountain. i found a perfect spot
3. take a bike ride on the root river trail
4. roll around in some leaves
hmmm…i guess that’s it for now… that’s weird.

10 fall things

10 fall things

fall is pretty much here. it was 50ΒΊ today – almost glove weather for me. here’s a list of things i want to accomplish this fall.
1. root river trail biking. i think it’s set for the third weekend in october.
2. fix my mailbox. it’s wobbly and needs cement in its base.
3. take fall pics. i used to go to st john’s and take pics. i have to find a new place! whitewater??
4. plant garlic. no brainer.
5. plant tulip and peony bulbs. gotta remember to do that!
6. clean out my dumb garage. it’s just a mess in there.
7. write something meaningful in my blog. not a list.
8. get a sub-11-minute mile done??? this is really iffy.
9. drink more pumpkin drinks. mmm.
10. make more apple desserts. can’t go wrong there.
11. (bonus) go antiquing with liz!

take-a-moment tuesday

take-a-moment tuesday

i am so impressed with my last-weekend self, that i have to make a list of the things i accomplished so i can remember how awesome my labor day self was.

  • made and canned salsa
  • made and froze apple sauce
  • made and froze apple butter
  • went to state fair
  • went to canvas and chardonnay and painted something
  • stopped and picked 5-gallon bucket of apples for FREE
  • made and canned pickles
  • cut legs off barstools to make counter stools
  • finished my stephen king book
  • ran 6.2 miles
  • finally got to the farmers’ market
  • convinced nate to buy shoes
  • went to menards, returned some stuff, bought a …
  • protector for the counter above my dishwasher, then installed it
  • made a cauliflower-crust pizza, which was ok but not as awesome as regular pizza

that was a pretty decent list for a 3-day weekend. the only thing that would’ve made it even more awesome is if i’d painted a room or built a deck. another weekend!

conversion camper: year 2 boogaloo
conversion camper: year 2 boogaloo

my vacay was good! a few takeaways:
1. i was on the road one way for 10 hours. the other way 11 hours. that sucked. it’s a long ways out to mandan.
2. we bought bigger fireworks this year. it was awesome. the neighbors had even bigger fireworks, which was even awesomer.
3. sandbarring was good, but it was no lake.
4. i realized i have more of a tradition of going to fireworks with nate than i do of going to mandan, so i will be staying home next year. i’ll need a week off in june for the BLACK HILLS, so i need to save up my vacation time.
5. i should have gotten some medora mints while i could – i was going to go on sunday, but the store where they sold them was closed πŸ™
6. never ever ever ever ever stop at the perkins in jamestown ever ever again. we waited an hour to get our food. still haven’t heard back from perkins on twitter (i tweeted the experience).
7. hm, overall i’m glad i went, but it was no derry family reunion. :((((
