garden dreams

“Seed catalogs are responsible for more unfulfilled fantasies than Enron and Playboy combined.” – Michael Perry

today it was windy and snowy and gross out, but i went to visit my dad to talk about putting in a garden this summer. then i looked at a garden planner online, and then ordered the seed potatoes i need.

i am so ready for springtime.

this week we are FINALLY supposed to see some sun and above-70 temps!! i’m so excited. but the flowers in the yard are blooming as well as the ones on my concrete slab, so here are a couple pics i took poofy_low pops to embiggen.

check and check

well, my flowerbed is cleared out, tulips are pretty much done for the season, fuchsias purchased and hung, geraniums in a pot, tomatoes purchased and waiting, and vegetable beds cleared and fertilized.

now we wait to see if i plant.

but i don’t want to dwell on my anxiety levels. instead, i would like to point out that the weather is awesome! but it’s sooo windy, which blows (haha, pun intended) when i am trying to run.

i’ve settled on running a mile during the week mornings and focusing on increasing my speed and breathing levels, then on sunday evenings, i will run 3 miles at a leisurely pace. i think that’s not a bad plan.

tonight i’m attempting to make hotwings. i’ve never made them, and it should be relatively easy. i’ve already prepped with wings, and they were pretty easy to clip and cut apart. then i fry them, toss them with the sauce (i have a hot wing sauce from the store and a doctored up sauce that has more barbecue-y stuff in it), then bake them. blue cheese dressing is ready to go! i’ll take pics.

one post. one lonely post.

now two.

easter’s on sunday. i asked my dad if he would just hand over the golden egg since i’d be the only one searching for it. alas, the GE is not making an appearance this year. that makes me sad. 🙁 know what is making an appearance this year already though? my peonies. i’m kind of scared they’re going to freeze. it was down to 32 last night (i covered them up) and low-mid 30s but not freezing for the next few nights. i was hoping this year would finally be the year they bloom, but if they freeze, that’s not going to happen.

my tomatoes have made an appearance. i’m still waiting on my rosemary seedlings, but the back of the packet says it takes twice as long as tomatoes do. so, theoretically, this weekend they should be poking through. i hope my greenhouse abilities result in some spectacular plants. we’ll see.
