i could get used to this 3-day weekend schtick pretty quick here. this past friday was the 3rd snow/cold day RCTC has had this semester. that’s all within 2 months. word in the office is that a whole day off for weather is virtually unheard of, so this is how we know this winter has been gross.
in my whole four years at st. ben’s, we didn’t have one single snow day. if i was lucky, we might’ve had a late start, but probably not since i can’t remember anything like that. while i was in high school, the governor himself closed public schools 3 times, so we had that going for us.
so what is up with the weather anyway? after the first cold snap, the weather dude on mpr was saying that would be the last of the cold weather we’d see this year. then we had a couple more. after the last one, my coworker, who owns a dairy farm, said the long-term forecast showed no more cold snaps. guess what? it’s supposed to get down to -15 this next week on an overnight.
they (the ubiquitous they) say that this is the coldest winter in thirty years. i am one of those people who is in the mindset of, “oh, it’s below 40 degrees? it’s cold.” cold is cold. doesn’t matter if it’s 32 or -32 – it’s all the same to me. my gas bill says otherwise, and i thank the gods above and below that i bought a new-construction with new insulation.
speaking of cold and snow, i’m off to watch late-night olympics, which are taking place in not-cold sochi. what a joke.

surprise!

surprise!

i love it when i get a check in the mail and i know it’s a check, but i have no idea it’s coming. i had a rebate for my washer/dryer that nate and i got way back in november. 3 months later, and i got my rebate for $100! woo!
know what else would be an awesome surprise? getting something for valentine’s day, but i doubt that’ll happen :/

slowly but surely

slowly but surely

you may recall: after crappy wireless quality on my ps3, i ran an ethernet cable out to the living room and found my wireless was just crappy, not crappy internet.
running a wire through the house, however, was not viable. it needed to run through the basement where i wouldn’t trip over it. it made sense for the cords to run from cable outlet to cable outlet, but SCARY, amiright?
i wanted to make sure i had the right measurements and general idea of how to go about running a cord through the basement to the living room, so my dad spent an afternoon with me a few weeks ago, and we got the general locations figured out for the holes in the floor to the cable outlet boxes. after some not so successful attempts, we gave up.
today i went back at it, breaking the bottoms out of the cable outlets so i could see what was going on. success! after making the holes a little bigger, i was able to run my drain cleaner thing up the hole from the basement and grab it from the upstairs. i taped the ethernet cord to the end and pulled it down to the basement, then up to the living room.
and because i don’t have the right boxes nor the supplies to make an actually cat5 outlet, i did the ghetto thing and just ran the cord from the bottom of the faceplates. ha! no one will see them anyway.  hooked that bad boy up to my switch, and now my ps3, tv, and xbox are all internet ready. woo!

this is a horrible picture. but in the lower left you can kind of see the cord that’s just hanging out.

hi there

hi there

just a checkin tonight because i don’t have anything for you. i did put some under cabinet lights under the rest of my counter, so now i can see what i’m cooking, but that’s about as exciting as it got today. happy friday!

hair care interlude

hair care interlude

my hair has been really dry lately, which i attributed to my getting old and grey.
i decided to try out a couple things i found on pinterest for helping hair, here and here.
the first one is a mix of olive oil, honey, and apple cider vinegar. work into hair and let rest for 30-60 mins. the second is just coconut oil rubbed into hair.
omg – the difference is insane! i suppose all the sweat from running didn’t help, along with more hair washing because of the sweat. the gal who wrote the coconut oil post recommends doing it once a week, so i might try to at least do it once a month and see if it makes a more considerable difference in my hair.
(i also got some decent shampoo and conditioner, which should help as well.)
PS – NO WORK TOMORROW! i cannot buy advertising for FB and twitter that gets the sort of response and new followers that announcing a closure does. INSANE!

1. sherlock was awesome! i don’t want to say much without spoilers, but there were some funny moments and i’m excited for next week!
i hate the fact that i can get all basic channels excpet NBC through my antenna. i think i’m going to get the largest indoor antenna i can find and see if it works. i want to get the olympics in HD!
3. tomorrow’s back to work. i could get used to this 3-day weekend thing though.
4. i dressed up my christmas tree star before putting my stuff away for the season. the first year i got a tree, i had some branches and made a star from them. it just looks a little boring, so i made it sparkly!

long weekend!

i feel like i haven’t worked at all lately! i had christmas, then new year’s, then a cold day, and now MLK day next week. next month i get president’s day. then a couple months and it’s memorial day!
all the holidays? INGENIOUS! this is something i definitely will take over the private work sector. screw you, only 7 paid holidays a year!

zombie pub crawl was pretty awesome, despite being sober! i’d imagine it’d be more fun if i’d been slightly buzzed! i loved my costume, and had a lot of comments on it! the first guy who said anything actually had a leg tattoo of bruce! woo! only met one other guy dressed as ash the whole night.

one thing i would add: more dirt and blood to my clothes and face. i would also make sure to bone up on more quotes besides “groovy” and “give me some sugar baby”.  i’m impressed no one stole my gun, even though quite a few people started to take it out of its holster (i guess to see if it was real?). i’m also impressed i kept my trusty chainsaw on my hand for most of the night. i thought i would get sick of it and stick it back by my gun, but it wasn’t that much of a pain. i’m glad i went with a mirror image though so i could have my right hand free.
lots of zombies. lots of ornery people. lots of drunk people. i found waldo. a few zombie slayers (like me! haha!). next time we would start at the other end and get there earlier so we could see the actual festivities.
definitely recommend!

so ready!

so ready!

1. i just need to bloody/dirty up my clothes, and i’ll be set for the pub crawl. so excited about my costume!
2. government is still closed. which means my house loan is still on hold. come on,idiotic congress. get your act together.
3. bought a NEW BIKE! i’d been riding my $15 goodwill bike all summer, and finally i had enough. the handlebars had always been crooked, but i didn’t realize how crooked until i took it apart. the bar that slides into the bike frame itself is bent. that’s pretty much unfixable. talked to charlie and convinced myself to buy a new bike. black and pink shwinn! cost $165, but got the walmart discount on it at least. still no helmet.
4. i’ve been thinking about going to see a therapist about my anxiety. could be i’m co-dependent as well? i’m always like, nate let’s do something together, but he’s always not into that and wonders why i’m bugging him all the time. not sure. mom is co-dependent, so it wouldn’t surprise me. there’s more to that but here is not the location.
5. i’m way behind on packing. well, if we don’t get a loan, i won’t have to worry about packing!
