yoga

yoga

i went to my first real-life yoga class today.
in the past i’ve done a video – i had a VHS a long time ago, and then i bought a dvd maybe 10 years ago. the thing i found wrong with going along with a video was that i got bored pretty quickly.
so fast forward to last october when my doc said “no running” even though i’d been running on my heel spur for the entire time i’d been running. so for two weeks, i test drove youtube vids of yoga. tried about 3 or 4 before i found fightmaster yoga, and i’ve been doing it ever since. believe me; three months of me doing yoga is a long time.
then i decided it was time to actually go to a class to make sure i was doing it correctly. lord knows i wobble a lot and my legs are probably out of alignment a lot of the time. after some poking around, i found a place here in st charles.
i told my mom about it, who’s been wanting to do yoga for 40 years apparently, and we signed up.
it was awesome! it was about an hour and 15 mins, and it seemed like a lot less time. i was worried the leader was going to be a ton more abrasive than lesley fightmaster, who is the master (haha) of soothing instruction. but she was really good.
we are going back!

snow
tonight the world turned suddenly white after an on-again off-again relationship between this winter and snow. according to the old farmers’ almanac, this winter is supposed to be as snowy as last year, but won’t start until almost january (true so far??). now we’re supposed to at least stay below freezing, so any snow we do get will most likely stay on the ground.
snow is so deceptive. it looks so nice and clean, so pure. it keeps the world crisp during wintertime by covering up the drab brown. but then you step outside, and your breath can be taken away by the cold. the most unfortunate thing about snow is that it goes hand in hand with the cold.
so at least it looks better outside than it did, and we’re supposed to get 1-3″ of snow by 9 a.m. tomorrow. there’s about that much outside now, and the snow is forecast to keep coming down at least until 10 a.m. there will be a lot more than 3″ is my bet. better a late white christmas in the season than no white christmas season at all (all you naysayers aren’t realizing the 12 days of christmas come AFTER christmas).

ugh

ugh

i forgot to blog tonight. so here i am thumbin’ it in bed.
in other news, kablpoye (the year of blogging) is almost over!

a tale of a tail

a tale of a tail

today nate woke me up at 6:30 this morning to tell me that ralf needed assistance with his tail.
apparently, he had someone dipped his tail into the wax of a candle that i had burning last night. i am still trying to figure out the logistics of it.
(what i do for this dumb cat.)
went in the bathroom and performed surgery on the tail hairs. cut away a lot of it, tried to shave some if it off then washed the little nub that was left to get the smell of wax out (or some of it at least).
so now ralf’s walking around with a little tail nubbin.

bazaar time!

bazaar time!

my work buddy and i went to the christmas bazaar at one of the local churches in town today. bazaars are generally only one step above auctions when it comes to prices. i was able to get liz three christmas village houses for $1 apiece, a pyrex glass bread loaf pan for $1.75, and some christmas lighted garland for $3. not too shabby!
my cold is hanging on nobody’s business; i’ve had it for a week now. it should theoretically be gone by sunday, but we’ll see what happens. my body’s been like, let’s go for a run! but my head has been all “nooooooooo nooooooooooo i will explode” on me. so i haven’t been for a run in almost two weeks since i had a busy three days before thanksgiving. i’ll be happy when this is done with!
ah, tree time is always a dilemma. i think i’ll try to get it up within the next week, even if i get it after work some day. i’ve got to get it up so i can get a picture of the cats for my christmas cards! that should be a fun time (sarc).

hello december!

hello december!

and hello post-thanksgiving cold! yahoo!
it seems to have gotten worse instead of better over the last couple days – weird since it’s been going since late friday. oh well; it’ll have to quit eventually. on the plus side, i blew through an entire book today. if tomorrow holds the same promise, i might just meet my book challenge for goodreads this year (haha – unlikely as I need 23 more books).
a lot of stuff going on this month! 9-year anniversary is on the 3rd. cookie making, tree goes up, weird christmas to ensue with half the family gone…
any snow we had melted over the last weekend with the 37º weather we had, so it doesn’t seem like it could be anywhere close to christmas, but it’ll still come. this whole year has seemed weird – spring was late, summer was late, september was weirdly warm. i feel like any day now, it’ll go back to be 70º and sunny and be late-august, but that’s not happening anytime soon.
oh, and i failed my november devil’s syrup challenge! boo on me. so much for an easy catvember so i could focus on that. 😐

a few things

a few things

1. i am going to be published in rochester women’s magazine! how exciting. i submitted a version of my pumpkin pie thanksgiving story. i’m hoping anything out there will be better than nothing. i’m really hoping someone offers me money to write for them.
2. if you want to start yoga, i highly recommend fightmaster yoga on youtube. the instructor has the most soothing voice for yoga, and the time flies by – namaste. she has beginner, intermediate, and yoga specifically for weight loss, certain poses, etc. she has a ton of videos. that was my problem previously with yoga: i was doing the same thing over and over. a little variation helps a ton! i do it without a mat on my living room carpet; so far it’s been working. my core is definitely getting the workout it was missing.
3. mn blogger conference this weekend! i was going to go just for me, but after looking at the schedule and talking to my coworker, it’s probably going to be helpful for work, too. so i’m going for work and taking friday off! woo!
4. i gotta carve pumpkins!

fail whale!

fail whale!

i have really been slacking on the blog posts! ugh. november is looming and this doesn’t bode well for my daily kitty pics.
we’ll see what happens!
tomorrow is biking day. i’ll try to get some pics and make tomorrow’s post interesting.

upgrade

upgrade

just a short blog post tonight because i’m typing on my phone. i’m updating my laptop to mavericks and i don’t want to turn on my main rig! (i’m really lazy i guess.)
short week of work this week because of a wedding on thursday. i’m excited! my bank of vacation time is not. i will be down to 5 hours after this weekend. no more time off for me until next june when it’s a week off for the black hills!

eyes

eyes

so i found out the other day that my eye exams are 100% covered by my health insurance. huzzah! it’s been about 3-4 years since i had my eyes checked. since it was covered, i decided to get a contacts fitting at the same time; it was only $15.
i haven’t worn contacts in years, but i ended up buying a box of them. i figure if anything, i’ll wear them running since my glasses do tend to slide down my nose occasionally from the sweat.
on the glasses front, i have a slightly bigger astigmatism in my right eye, so i ordered a $25 pair from zennioptical so i’ll be able to see 100% clearly out of my glasses.
