i don’t care if you’re republican or democrat, you need to check out dean barkley for the MN senate race. just go to his website and read up on his issues.

he’s running under the independent party, but he’s more of a libertarian than anything, which in my mind, brings together the best of both major parties: being fiscally responsible, while also being socially responsible and preserving personal rights. here’s some highlights of the issues:
• pro gun ownership
• rethinking the drinking age
• putting a spending freeze on the government
• expanding alternative energy
• letting iraq take charge of its own country and focusing on finding osama bin laden (who? haha)

don’t just vote down the party line; be an independent, informed voter. i have been known to vote for republicans and independents as well as democrats. if i can do it, so can you.

what is the number one reason you are voting for whoever you are voting for this election? it can be any election, state, school board, whatever. i just think it’d be interesting to hear the main reason why you’re voting for someone. i’ll go first.
#1 reason i’m voting for obama: a whole glut of reasons, but #1 edges out to be i think he’ll do more about alternative energy/environmental problems than mccain, followed by ending the useless war in iraq, thus freeing up a lot of goverment spending (with which to hopefully put into alternative energy!)
#1 reason i’m voting for dean barkley, MN senate race: i can’t stand norm coleman, and i don’t like al franken that much better.
#1 reason i’m voting for el tinklenburg, MN house of rep. race, 6th district: i like his name

FTA:
Stein says that as mayor, [Sarah] Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast."

ugh.

i wouldn’t vote this woman as head of the PTA, let alone 2nd in command of the US.

from HOUSEBLOG to POLITIBLOG in one fell swoop! 🙂

mccain’s VP pick is a woman. is he trying to lure in the hillary voters? if he kicks the bucket while in office (which is entirely plausible), we’d have a woman prez – something some republican people i know definitely DON’T want.
either way you vote, a minority is going to be in the highest held political office yet. about dang time.

some lady on the colbert report just said:
“i’m a woman, so i like hillary. i’m black, so i like obama. but i’m also grumpy, so i like mccain.”

a race issue?

a race issue?

after the caucus results came in from iowa, i was pleasantly surprised to see obama the winner. i like the guy. from my in-extensive research (meaning blogs and news headlines), i can get behind what he stands for.

and from reading messageboards and blogs, i could see a lot of republicans getting behind him. but still, there’s that issue of… race. hmm, well, is this presidential race going to turn into a race issue? if obama wins new hampshire, he’s got candidacy almost in the bag, and we’ll have our first black presidential candidate.

but the race issue keeps coming up. is america racist enough that he won’t get elected? is america ready for a black president? then there’s the whole issue of, well, he’s not really that black, he has a white mother and is related to dick cheney for god’s sake.

for crying out loud.

this guy is probably the racial equivalent to the american dream, don’t you think? the melting pot of america consists of blacks, whites, hispanics, e States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don’t like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and yes, we got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.”

maybe this is why more and more people are getting behind him. he is the average american, trying to bring a more balanced country to the people, and we americans are ready for balance.

my late rant!

my late rant!

not even a rant, because believe it or not, i drove to work yesterday and was like, um, why are all the flags at halfmast? who died?
then i got to work and wrote down the date and realized it was sept. 11. no commericalization. no over hyped-ness of the anniversary. but then, it was the 6th anniversary, so i’m not sure if it can really compare to the 5th. i’m sure the 10th will be outrageous, but this year i saw no advertisements on tv for coins made from the metal from the world trade centers, i didn’t witness any over-the-top opinion pieces in the newspapers, nothing.
so what happened to never forget? huh?
on a totally unrelated note, britney’s new songs are kinda…techno-ish.

taxes

taxes

*Sigh*
In light of the passage of $95 billion (yes, billion) to pay for the Iraq “war” through September (yes, only September), I propose a new way of allotting income taxes to which cause.
Why not let taxpayers themselves choose where their taxes go? It can’t be difficult in this information age to let people check off what percentage of their taxes go to what and have an automated system that breaks down total percentage after all taxes are in. A certain percentage would be taken out for stuff everybody wants, like public education and transportation funding, but the remaining would be divvied up to how you prescribe.
Say I want 50% of my taxes to go to social programs like welfare, women’s shelters and homeless prevention, and 50% to help the environment, and the yahoo republican (I’m sure he’s republican) upstairs wants 100% of his to go to the war effort. So be it. That way, I am sure that none of the taxes I pay go to crap I don’t feel needs to be funded.
It can’t be difficult. All they’re dealing with then is simple economics and pie charts.
But, oh wait, it would probably put politicians out of a job.
