social commentary! yay!

social commentary! yay!

so props to jcpenney!
they have a new spring ad campaign. the first ad i saw was of women in their new spring dresses/skirts/outfits, and as the walked past things (like cars, teakettles and men), they turned on, blinked, made noise, turned their heads, etc. well, i wasn’t too impressed with the ad. come on, let’s just be a little more sexist, showing women as sex objects.
then i saw their second ad. and it featured men dressed in sharp suits, pants, shirts, etc. and as THEY walked down the street, things (once again cars, fire hydrants and women), stuff turned on, spurt forth, and turned their heads. now i was impressed. it’s about time that the marketing world noticed that men are seen as sex objects as well!
now seeing others as sex objects is a whole different subject, but it’s nice to see advertisers putting men and women opposite their normal gender “roles.” a while back secret had an ad where a guy called his female friend to change his tire and splenda has men cooking with their kids. in real life, we know women change their tires and men do (sometimes) cook, but it’s nice to see it shown mainstream.

still not social commentary :)

still not social commentary :)

i called about the lemonade fair today, and it costs $50 to rent a 10×10 booth, plus i have to fill out an application and send pictures of my “craft.” if they accept me , i think i’ll do it. it will require some up-front money that i hope i can find.
i also went to a little shop in sauk rapids that sells people’s wares for a cut. i brought in my cards, and she was really pessimistic at first, saying that notecards didn’t sell well, and some lady had cards of munsinger gardens and she wanted $4 for them, blah blah blah. so she looked at my cards, and was surprised that they were a full bleed (why, i don’t know), then balked when i said i wanted to sell them for $2.50 each.
eh?
then she showed me this little card that someone made with their scrapbooking capabilites and stamps, and said that “she’s only selling this for $2 and it’s hand-made!”
um, so, me going out with my camera, using battery power, traipsing around to find a nice thing to take a picture of, tweaking it in photoshop, making it the right format for the printer, then sending it in isn’t as much work as someone folding cardboard, pasting a poodle on the front and writing “happy stupid bday” inside???
ok fine, i don’t want to sell my crap there anyway. she was way too unfriendly for my tastes.

a deal! :)

a deal! :)

i looked at three apartments today. one was a dump, the other was in a questionable section of town, and the third, oh baby! what a deal!
here’s what i get: $480/month, $500 deposit, free garage! and electricity is $30-40/month. all for a 6-month lease. yeah! i forgot to ask her about the cat thing, but when i take the applications in tomorrow, i will tell her we’re thinking of getting a cat, and see what she says. if she says they don’t take cats, then i guess i’ll just have contraband. kitty kontraband, that’s what we’ll call her from then on. time to get packing.
i’m going to look into being a vendor at the lemonade fair this year. it’s an arts/craft fair at scsu over the course of three days. if it’s a reasonable charge for a booth, i might think about doing it and seeing what happens. i don’t know what’s reaosnable, though, $300 or less?if i choose to do it, i also need to get a bunch of stuff printed. oh boy! it sounds exciting, but expensive up front, and who knows if people will buy stuff! rrgg… sound like a good idea or not?
no social commentary today. i cna’t think of anything to comment on. plus i have to go kick nate of the computer so i can work on a project.

not social commentary

not social commentary

ok, so my goal was to write more social commentary, but GOOD GOD am i have difficulties with FLASH aka the demon program. it needs to DIE DIE DIE. i spent maybe 8 hours working on this flash project, and i got it done (or so i thought) today. i was ecstatic the thing was finished and i could leave flash alone for another month or so.
NO.
nothing works! ARg. it stops, like it’s supposed to, but i can’t get it to go again when you click on a link. and i made it way too small, that needs to be changed. i am about ready to scream.
so i’m going to start all over, and i want your opinion on the colors/design of the current one. should i keep it? or start totally from scratch with a new design and stuff?
crappy flashy
i know you only see one page and can’t click on anything, but just deal with it. i’m reading my flash book cover to cover soon. this frustrates me to no end. AAAHHH!!!!
my new LJ layout is much more spacious, i kind of like the spaciousness of it. if only i could get the other parts of it to work. 🙁

;(

;(

i’m trying to update my layout and i’m having difficulties 🙁 so just ignore the weirdness of this for a while.

goal!

goal!

my goal is to try to update this thing every day. and more social commentary, witty comments and the like. now whether or not i will accomplish this is yet to be seen. if you want me to comment on a particular subject, feel free to prod me about it.
i’ll still post about my job search and any future endeavors involving former workplaces 🙂
i’m watching csi right now – hear about the csi effect? jury members are letting obviously guilty criminals go because the forensics dept. and police can’t produce results like they do on csi. are these jury members stupid? no one can magnify a photo x600 and have the resolution be perfect.
